I wrote this a year ago today (which I hadn't noticed until just now... weird) but I'm still not happy with it. Anyway, finally surfacing to post Sherlock fic!! :D At least this one is probably better than the last one... oh dear.

Anyway:

You've never really be interested in other people. In love. And everything that comes with it (Some say that's the problem; personally, it's the solution.) People are cruel, and spiteful, and frequently stupid. So you never really bother with it. With them. Why bother putting effort into something you don't care about? What Is The Point? So you never really try. So.

So you solve puzzles. Or, better, create puzzles. You immerse yourself in their complexities. He's a puzzle too. He's a door that needs to be opened; and you're never short of skeleton keys or paper-clips.

Since you were young, it's been easy to block them out. The taunts, the scorn, the lack of comprehension (which, of course, inevitably leads to disdain) and if they do. Well. Experience, practises. We learn.

Most people don't bother you enough to have to deal with them. Most of them keep out of your way, and those that don't soon get the message. Instead you stroll the streets of London looking for another crime. And you don't miss human company like they keep telling you you should.

Occasionally those people interfere and you have to help them along with their lives. You don't care enough about most to bother unless you really have to. And it's only since he appeared that you've wanted to get them out of the way quickly. When they invade your labyrinth. People are noisy and destructive and when he's around you don't want any distractions. Around him, you're never bored.

You don't really care about love. Or “relationships”. And when it comes to romance you'd rather have a cup of tea. Or deal with another smuggling, another heist. But what you have with him. The intrigue, the obsession, it's even sort of devotion the way you watch him. It's kind of like love. You aren't lying awake at night pining, yearning for contact, but when you're in the room with him the world stops. Or rather, it keeps going; but you don't give a damn.

You're never lonely. Not really. You want people out of your way most of all. But what you want from him. All you want is... . Enough.

Five more minutes in a room with Sherlock Holmes.

Thank you very much! :D Yes, I'm some what addicted to the second person which I know a lot of people don't get on with so it's nice to hear it's gone down well.
Thanks for commenting!

I am wonderful! Happy as ever and getting ready for a trip back to Atlanta for a con. It will be fun to go visit the city I no longer live in, then come back to my shiny new city.

Everyone seems to be slowly switching to tumblr, which makes me sad because there's not as much personal interaction and bonding.

Hurray!! I'm glad you're doing so well and having such fun times :D

I know; I've always had useless patches with LJ where I don't update for ages and then suddenly spam you all with pointless posts on the hour :P but I do hope it survives as I've been on here for so many years now. Tumblr is addictive though.

Eh, it happens to all of us.

That's beautiful and sums the relationship up fairly perfectly I think. I love that it is Watson rather than Sherlock.

Although I will most definitely be reading between the lines thank you!

Oh dear. Um, actually it's Jim, not John - sorry!

I think I maybe didn't make that quite clear enough?
vervet_monkeyvervet_monkey on August 19th, 2011 02:39 pm (UTC)
LOL, no, I actually meant to type Jim! Fail. Clearly I typed J and my head got carried away. I'm going to blame the fact that I am technically at work and those pesky phones I'm being paid to answer have a habit of ringing half way through typing.

So, very good fic, and I like that it is JIM rather than Sherlock. I will also continue reading between the lines.
vervet_monkeyvervet_monkey on August 19th, 2011 02:40 pm (UTC)
No, even that doesn't work, I wrote Watson... I clearly just wasn't paying attention...

Oh good! I'm so glad it didn't come across as John; phew!

Not to worry, I do all kinds of daft things for no reason all the time so accidentally typing one character's name instead of the other seems perfectly reasonable to me :D

So, hurray, I'm glad you enjoyed it as Jim and I'm glad you're still happy to read between the lines.

Yeah, brain and typing are not always entirely connected...

yours truly: bbc sherlock: johnemsana on August 19th, 2011 06:16 pm (UTC)
I think it's more of brain and typing are very occasionally connected in my case! :P
